John Barksdale, 4 Brand Strategies to Swear By

Branding is the process of creating an identity for your brand, which is unique and helps you stand out and be noticed. Branding is not an easy feat and many a times in the process of creating a brand and the hurry that exists, the branding remains uninteresting and usually copied from similar brands. It is easy to pick up an existing, successful branding idea and try to make it yours but rest assure it will not get you famous. So what is branding strategy? Branding strategy is when you are able to think out of the box to brand your company or product that you come across as unique and interesting.

What are these Strategies?

  1. Understand your product and what the USP is. It is also crucial to know what are the features of your product that are not appealing. Step one is to sell your USP. Step two is to not lie about the product’s problems. For instance a jam brand that lasts only two weeks but it made of pesticide free produce, the chances of people not picking it for its shelf life is high but the USP is a winner. So what does one do? Market it with the USP but never lie by saying that it will last them long. As a brand, your first step to be an honest marketer.
  2.  Understand your audience because you are designing a brand for them. Your strategy must largely depend on the kind of audience you have. Brand as per the age group of your audience, the gender group and type. Imagine branding a fun product in dull greys and boring campaigns. Nobody would be able to take interest in your brand then.
  3. Let the tagline do the talking. Your tagline will be the most read piece of content when you are designing your brand. Think of smart punch lines that are action oriented and speak louder about your product. When someone says ‘Just Do It’, people automatically think of Nike. This is an excellent tagline and a new brand must always try to be as impactful.
  4. Analyse competitors and do nothing like them. Analyse your competition and see what they are doing to get traffic. The minute you understand it replicate what you can but all forms of external branding strategy should be very different. A good brand will never copy the competitor but will always look at their movements and learn from it.

The successful John Barksdale once quoted Benjamin Franklin, “Well done is better than well said.” Such is the case with a brand too; get things done instead of just planning. Actions speak louder than words.
